Eknath Shinde faction argues in Supreme Court ‘legislative majority’ still a factor to decide ‘real’ Shiv Sena

The Supreme Court recently ruled that senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra will serve as the interim chairperson of the Bar Council of India (BCI) until new elections are held, with the BCI required to consult the Attorney-General and Solicitor-General before making significant policy decisions ahead of the upcoming polls. This directive came from a three-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, following a hearing where petitioners, including younger lawyers, raised concerns.

These included the establishment of the BCI Pearl First Trust in 2020, with Mishra and other BCI officials serving as "permanent managing trustees," a partnership between the Trust and the Goa government to develop a university on 56 acres of land, excessive expenditures on felicitations, and the extension of chairperson and vice-chairperson tenures to five years.
