Dutch woman living in Nepal found alive after surviving floods

A Dutch woman residing in Nepal has been rescued after enduring the catastrophic floods that swept through the country earlier this week, resulting in over 1,100 fatalities. Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced the positive news during a gathering of EU foreign ministers in Ireland. The woman is among three Dutch citizens known to be present in Nepal when a massive glacier in the Himalayas disintegrated on Wednesday, prompting a torrent of water and mud to cascade down the Bhote Koshi river, obliterating numerous villages in the Rawusa border area adjacent to Tibet.

The woman was present in the Himalayas when the disaster occurred but has managed to reach Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital, where she managed to contact the government. While the government remains deeply concerned about the whereabouts of the remaining two Dutch nationals, 29-year-old Christiaan Berghuis from Nijkerk and 51-year-old Maaike Moolhuijsen from Haarlem, both were on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, a revered Tibetan mountain, at the time of the flood.

The 80-member group of pilgrims was reportedly in an immigration office that fell victim to the floodwaters.
