Drought-hit farmers voice woes to Deputy Chief Minister in Nanjangud

Mr. Parameshwara met with Shivabasappa and Mahadevappa, farmers in Gattawadi village, who told him they had taken out loans to plant their maize and sunflower crops, now facing severe financial hardship.
The farmers appealed for immediate government assistance. Mr. Parameshwara questioned officials about the drought situation in the taluk, learning that horse gram, black gram, green gram, maize and cotton were normally grown on around 4,500, 4,200, 3,500, 3,400 and 8,000 hectares respectively each year. However, this year, only around 3,500 hectares had been sown due to the drought.
The crops that had been planted were also severely affected. Following his meeting with the farmers, Mr. Parameshwara assured them relief would be provided as soon as possible. He was joined by Nanjangud MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayan, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikant Reddy, Zilla Panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar, Nanjangud Tahsildar and agriculture officials.
Later, Mr. Parameshwara visited the Srikanteshwara Temple in Nanjangud town, known as Dakshina Kashi, and performed a puja.
