Dell’s new 14S laptop exists to challenge MacBook Neo and, somehow, might be even cheaper

Apple's MacBook Neo has gained attention in the laptop market due to its impressive build quality and affordability, although the price has increased slightly due to RAM issues. Dell aims to compete with this competitor by announcing its new Dell 14S laptop at IFA. Surprisingly, the Dell 14S could potentially be even more affordable than the MacBook Neo.

The Dell 14S is explicitly marketed as an "affordable" laptop tailored for students, college, and everyday use. Built with aluminum, it boasts an impressive 21-hour battery life and offers either an Intel Core Ultra 3 or Core Ultra 5 processor. The 16:10 display comes in both 60Hz and 120Hz options, and the device includes two USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack.

Dell claims the laptop weighs around 2.5lbs and is just 13.5mm thick. A Dell blog Q&A confirms that the 14S positions itself as a "compelling" alternative to the MacBook Neo, though the pricing has not yet been revealed. Dell hints that the 14S will be cheaper than the XPS 13, which starts at $699, suggesting the Dell 14S may become more budget-friendly than the MacBook Neo.

The laptop will be available in the United States this fall, with pricing to be announced closer to its release in each market. Dell emphasizes that the 14S is meant to complement the XPS 13 and remain accessible for students and young adults worldwide, ensuring regional pricing aligns with this goal. Interestingly, Dell already launched a laptop named "14S" earlier this year, which was designed for creators; the new model, however, prioritizes everyday performance, long battery life, portability, vibrant design, and accessible pricing.
