Control of roaming cows in Abuja not police responsibility – Spokesperson

The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that their role in controlling roaming cows within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) does not fall under their mandate. According to the police spokesperson, Ani Iniedu, the police would only intervene when the cows cause damage, trespass, or engage in other criminal activities. Iniedu made these remarks during a joint security spokespersons' briefing, responding to inquiries about the increasing presence of cows roaming roads and public spaces in Abuja.

He explained that the responsibility for managing animals, such as cattle, lies with the relevant environment authorities. The police would only become involved after being notified of an incident or if a complaint is formally lodged.
