Coco Gauff Says Serve Problems Are Gone Despite Leading WTA Double-Fault List

Coco Gauff is confident she has resolved her serve issues from last season, even though she tops the WTA Tour's list for double faults in 2026. The 2023 US Open winner has claimed Grand Slam titles at the US Open and French Open in three consecutive years, but her serve has consistently been a weakness. This became more apparent last year when Gauff became visibly distressed on court while failing to control the shot.

To help, biomechanics coach Gavin MacMillan was enlisted. According to Tennis365, Gauff has taken 308 double faults this season, leading the rankings. Alycia Parks and Jelena Ostapenko are close behind with 222 each, while Linda Noskova, the Wimbledon champion, has 213. Despite the high number, Gauff has grown more confident in her serve.

She said, "Last year I knew all eyes were going to be on the serve. Gavin is so great at what he does, so I felt a lot of pressure — even pressure I put on myself to prove he’s great at what he does." Now, Gauff feels much more comfortable when serving and even when stepping onto court. "It feels good to come into a tournament feeling confident on that shot finally," she said.

Gauff believes her improved serve has positively impacted her overall game, especially as she continues to return well. "Now that I’m returning well and serving well, it just feels good. You feel a lot more at ease when the shot is going in," she added. While the double-fault figures remain a concern, Gauff's comments indicate she no longer approaches her serve with the same uncertainty from last season.

With newfound confidence, Gauff aims to convert this progress into more consistent performances as she continues her 2026 campaign.
