Christian Council pays courtesy call on Mahama Ayariga to strengthen collaboration

The Christian Council of Ghana recently met with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, in Accra to bolster cooperation between the Christian community and government. During the meeting, both parties explored potential areas of collaboration, such as sanitation, education, healthcare, religious tolerance, and the National Cathedral's future development.

The Christian Council expressed its willingness to strengthen its partnership with the Ministry, particularly through its Environmental Care and Cleanliness Programme. This initiative aims to improve sanitation and promote positive attitudes towards waste management. Furthermore, the Council was prepared to contribute resources to enhance these efforts.

The discussions surrounding the National Cathedral highlighted the Council's intent to mobilize financial support from both Ghana and the international Christian community to facilitate its completion. Rev. Dr Cyril Fayose, the Council’s General Secretary, urged the government to establish the essential conditions for the project's progress.

In response, Ayariga acknowledged that advancing the National Cathedral required dialogue and a consensus among stakeholders. While the government showed no opposition to the existence of a National Cathedral, it stressed that the Christian community needed to reach a unified stance on aspects such as location, cost, and financing of the project.
