Cambiemos Demands Street-Washing Plan and Audit of Damaged Bins

Cambiemos Orihuela is calling for a permanent street-washing program and an investigation into the poor condition of recently purchased waste bins. The party will bring a motion to the next council meeting, urging the governing coalition to establish a regular schedule for street cleaning and bin maintenance. Despite investing in new equipment and waste charges, the council's current services remain unreliable.

Cambiemos highlighted the purchase of a new water tanker in July, costing €174,240, but claims it rarely saw operation during the summer. The party is also concerned about the rapid deterioration of waste containers in Orihuela city centre, where €800,000 was spent on renewing and expanding the stock of 1,643 units. However, many containers have shown signs of damage, including lids, pedals, wheels, and fastenings.

Councillor Quique Montero expressed frustration, stating that residents are paying more for waste collection while the council has spent vast sums on new equipment, only for it to break down within months. The party is demanding a comprehensive technical audit and an inventory of damaged units to determine compatibility with waste collection vehicles, causes of the breakages, and whether warranties should be invoked or responsibility assigned.
