Burnham will fail unless he pivots on net zero

Andy Burnham has pledged a political revolution, promising to create jobs, revitalize manufacturing, and manage housing. However, his efforts are hampered by his unwavering commitment to Net Zero, a policy that has increased the cost of living. During his campaign, Burnham consulted with Miatta Fahnbulleh, an Energy Secretary and advocate for achieving Net Zero within 10 to 15 years.

In recent discussions, Fahnbulleh acknowledged the need to reform the energy market to better serve consumers, while emphasizing her dedication to long-term decarbonization. The Prosperity Institute, a research organization, contends that the pursuit of Net Zero has resulted in higher energy bills, adding £1,400 per household to the cost of living.

Furthermore, the institute's research suggests that Net Zero policies are impeding the growth of the manufacturing sector, leading to decreased production and rising costs. The government currently faces a dilemma, as debates in the Labour Party revolve around approving new oil and gas fields. With the potential to make a significant change, the Prime Minister has an opportunity to demonstrate genuine concern for the well-being of working people and businesses, rather than engaging in empty rhetoric.
