Browns still searching for long-term answer at QB with Watson selected as starter

The Cleveland Browns find themselves without a long-term solution at quarterback as Deshaun Watson is selected as the starter for the season opener against Jacksonville. Coach Todd Monken will utilize Watson under center despite the veteran's mixed record as the team's starter since the 2022 trade of three first-round picks to Houston.

The offensive line is also in transition, with all five starters being new additions, while rookie receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston aim to strengthen the passing game. The defense, however, appears solid, despite trading the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, to the Los Angeles Rams. Despite the trade, Cleveland maintains a formidable defense, led by rookie DE Jared Verse, who has impressed during the preseason. However, the Browns face uncertainty at the quarterback position, with the possibility of three quarterbacks starting at least one game for the fourth consecutive season. Rookie Taylen Green joins the roster, but will likely serve as a developmental project during the early weeks due to a back injury.

The offensive line's future remains unclear, as rookie Parker Brailsford was not among the preseason starters and was sidelined by injuries. Kansas City's Denzel Boston, known for his ability to make contested catches, has proven himself to be an asset for the Browns' passing attack.
