Brazilian justice who imprisoned Bolsonaro now under fire for alleged links to disgraced banker

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is facing calls for his resignation after being implicated in alleged connections to a disgraced banker. This comes after the former president, Jair Bolsonaro, was sentenced to 27 years in prison for a coup attempt. Federal police documents revealed that Daniel Vorcaro, the owner of Banco Master, sought repeated advice from de Moraes.

Vorcaro even thanked the justice in messages that could not be accessed by investigators, and discussed the alleged conversations with friends. The Supreme Court convened in Brasilia on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the revelations, but none of the nine justices addressed the situation. The pressure on de Moraes continues outside the court, with politicians and legal experts demanding his resignation.

Folha de S. Paulo called for his resignation, suggesting that if he refuses to step down, the Senate should impeach him. Vorcaro's case has also led to the closure of Banco Master and Vorcaro's arrest pending trial. This scandal has drawn attention to several politicians ahead of October's elections, including Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro and an ally of President Lula da Silva.
