Bangladesh offers rooftop solar incentives to ease power shortages

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stated, in her first interview with Indian media, that her return to Bangladesh is not about power but to stand by the people. She questioned the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government's decision to link her extradition with a possible visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Hasina expressed her intent to return to Bangladesh on her own by December and refuted claims that her extradition is a condition for Tarique Rahman's visit. She also criticized the BNP government's decision to acquire combat jets from China during a period of electricity and gas shortages, lack of fertilizers, and a cost of living crisis.

Hasina emphasized that the issue of extradition is being used for political purposes and that Bangladesh's progress in development, democracy, and stability is being damaged. She stated that her return is about standing beside the people and that the specific date, time, and point of entry for her return will be announced in due course.
