B.C. woman fined for sleeping as Tesla drove on major highway

A Metro Vancouver woman found herself facing a fine exceeding $300 after being captured on video dozing off while operating a Tesla on a major highway. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on August 11th, on Highway 1 in North Vancouver. The BC Highway Patrol reported witnessing the woman with her eyes closed at the wheel of a white Tesla.

Police utilized the video footage to locate the vehicle's owner in Maple Ridge, B.C., by comparing her appearance to the driver seen in the recording. She was subsequently fined $368 for failing to exercise due care while driving. Authorities caution B.C. motorists that despite advancements in self-driving technology, it remains illegal to sleep behind the wheel in the province. Drivers are obligated to remain fully attentive and alert at all times while operating a vehicle.
