Attempted Sabotage In Leipzig Will Only Strengthen EU’s Resolve To Help Ukraine — European Commission President

Russian forces' unsuccessful attempt to target cargo planes at Leipzig airport has only reinforced the European Union's commitment to backing Ukraine, leading to heightened pressure on Moscow and the existing sanctions regime. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made this statement today, September 2, in Brussels, according to Vitalii Syzov, a special correspondent for FREEДОМ in Europe.

Von der Leyen deemed the incident in Germany a direct act of hybrid aggression from the Kremlin on EU soil, warning that had the attack been successful, it would have resulted in significant damage and potential loss of life. She emphasized that the assault employed military-grade materials and was orchestrated by Russian operatives on EU territory.

The Commission President reiterated that the Kremlin's attempts to intimidate European allies have proven ineffective, and if the objective was to make the EU reconsider its support for Ukraine, it has only solidified her determination. Von der Leyen asserted that intimidation would not deter Europe and NATO, who would continue to exert pressure on Russia and intensify their actions until Russia ceases bombing and killing innocent civilians in Ukraine.

She highlighted that the sabotage in Leipzig represents a new escalation, with Russia's hybrid attacks becoming the "new normal," demanding an immediate response from the West and the safeguarding of critical infrastructure as a potential frontline. The European Union plans to intensify its sanctions pressure and close all loopholes for circumventing restrictions in response to such actions.

Commission members are analyzing ways to further deplete Russia's reserves for waging war, and European foreign ministers in Ireland are discussing new sanctions lists.
