At least 21 die in bus accident in Egypt’s South Sinai, ministry says

In Egypt's south Sinai region, a bus accident on Wednesday claimed the lives of at least 21 people, including 10 Jordanian nationals, according to security officials. A total of 24 passengers sustained injuries, with four of them in critical condition. The officials did not disclose whether any of the injured were foreigners. The Jordanian Foreign Ministry confirmed the presence of Jordanians among the deceased and injured, though they did not provide specific numbers.

The cause of the bus overturning remains unclear, as it was traveling between the Red Sea resorts of Dahab and Nuweibaa, both popular holiday destinations known for their sandy beaches, pristine waters, and rich marine life. The tragedy is reminiscent of another road accident that occurred less than a month ago, where 18 people, mostly children, were killed near the Suez Canal city of Ismailia when the lorry they were traveling in collided with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction, leaving 30 others injured.

Road accidents in Egypt are alarmingly frequent, with speeding, disregard for traffic regulations, and poor road conditions, including narrow lanes, cited as contributing factors.
