Ambulance driver charged with reckless driving over fatal Jasin crash pleads not guilty

JASIN, September 2 — Mohd Noorikhmal Baharuddin, a 41-year-old ambulance driver, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court to charges of reckless driving that led to the death of an 18-year-old motorcyclist named Muhammad Amirul Asyraaf Md Azizan, reported Bernama. The incident occurred at the Kampung Ayer Merbau T-junction traffic light on August 26 at approximately 9:15 am when the ambulance driver allegedly drove recklessly, causing the fatal accident.

Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act charges Mohd Noorikhmal with a penalty of up to five to ten years imprisonment, a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000, and a potential disqualification from holding a driving license for up to five years. Prosecutors presented bail at RM8,000 with one surety and a temporary suspension of the accused's driving license.

The defense attorney, Datin Kharen Jit Kaur, requested a lower bail amount, citing his cooperation with the investigation. Magistrate Mazana Sinin set the bail at RM3,000 and imposed an additional condition on the accused's driving license. The matter is scheduled for mention on September 17 for the submission of relevant documents.
