‘Amaechi not fit to be Vice President’ – Wike

Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as unfit to serve as Nigeria's Vice President, citing his alleged past actions that violated the judiciary. During his monthly media briefing in Port Harcourt, Wike also accused the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) of abandoning its role of safeguarding justice and the rule of law for political gains.

He urged Nigerians to scrutinize the records of politicians claiming to defend democracy and the rule of law before entrusting them with significant public roles. Wike pointed out that Amaechi once shut down courts in Rivers State, leading to a pregnant woman giving birth in prison, which he believes should be considered when evaluating politicians for high offices.

Furthermore, Wike criticized the NBA for becoming politically involved, stating that it has transformed into a political party. Regarding the 2027 presidential election, Wike pledged to oppose Atiku Abubakar, his former Vice President, who is contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Lastly, Wike clarified that his frequent visits to Rivers State were not an attempt to relocate but rather to maintain close ties with his constituents and stay informed about local political developments ahead of the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that he is not moving back to Rivers State but remains committed to being present and engaged with his people.
