In August, the number of unemployed people increased by 44,419 to reach a total of 2,355,918, marking the lowest level for a August month since 2007. The number of unemployed registered with the State Employment Service Offices (SEPE) rose by 44,419, reaching the 2.3 million mark, which is the lowest for a August month since 2007.

The unemployment rate decreased by 1.30% compared to the previous month. The Spanish Social Security lost 162,840 members, with the total number of insured workers decreasing to 22,345,226. The increase in unemployment was due to the end of contracts during the summer season. Young people aged under 25 saw an increase of 8,168 in unemployment, representing a 5.12% rise.

In August, 1,144,827 contracts were registered, with 440,274 being temporary contracts, accounting for 38.46% of the total. Unemployment rose in all autonomous regions except Ceuta, where there were 148 fewer unemployed people. Catalonia, Madrid, and Valencia had the highest levels of unemployment. The Social Security department noted that the decline in membership in August compared to July was very low, as August is typically an affected by seasonal factors.

In contrast, the increase in insured workers in August compared to the same month last year was the highest since 2021, with 679,023 new insured workers. Foreign workers' insurance also saw a significant increase, with 340,000 new insured workers in August, primarily due to the extraordinary regularization process for foreign workers, with Colombia and Venezuela accounting for a large portion of the increase.
