22-year-old man gets 20 years for sexually assaulting his mother

In a South African courtroom, a 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting his mother in 2025, according to prosecutors. The incident occurred at their home in Carnarvon, Northern Cape, after the mother and her partner had been drinking and went to sleep. The accused, who had also been drinking at a friend's house before returning home, took advantage of his mother's unconscious state to commit the crime.

The victim, a 42-year-old woman, awoke during the assault and recognized what was happening. She confronted her son, who fled the scene. The woman reported the incident to the police after learning of it from her partner. Initially, the accused denied the allegations, but DNA evidence later connected him to the crime. The Carnarvon Regional Court acknowledged the woman's deep emotional distress and the ongoing trauma she experiences due to the assault.

The man was sentenced to 20 years of direct imprisonment and added to the National Register for Sex Offenders.
