2027: ADC inaugurates reconciliation committee to address primary grievances

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has established a National Reconciliation and Peace Committee to address grievances arising from recent primaries and prepare for the 2027 general elections. ADC National Chairman David Mark inaugurated the committee in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing the initiative's aim to heal wounds, rebuild trust, and ensure all members feel valued and included.

The primaries held in May, the resulting outcomes, and the list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission sparked mixed reactions among party members, leading to disaffection among some leaders. Mark urged successful aspirants to view their victories as responsibilities and not chances to sideline former opponents, while reassuring unsuccessful candidates of their continued value to the party.

The ADC's priority is to build a united and disciplined platform ahead of the 2027 elections, with the reconciliation committee engaging aggrieved members, addressing their concerns, and rebuilding trust. The committee will establish zonal sub-committees for ongoing engagement and urges members to promote peace, fairness, and unity within the party.

No internal sabotage, politics of revenge, permanent winners or losers are acceptable, and the ADC cannot afford to enter the 2027 general elections as a divided party.
