Zulum suspends Mallam-Fatori village ward heads over absence during visit

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the immediate suspension of all village and ward heads in Mallam-Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area. This directive stems from their absence during the governor's visit to the community, currently witnessing the return of residents displaced by Boko Haram insurgency. The order was communicated by Zulum's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dauda Iliya, to the press in Maiduguri.

While inspecting public infrastructure and evaluating initiatives to aid returning residents, the governor expressed his dissatisfaction with the leaders' absence, stating it was unprofessional, especially considering the ongoing efforts to rebuild homes. The Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mele, has been tasked with quickly appointing new village and ward heads.

These individuals must possess integrity, competence, and dedication to collaborate with residents, government officials, and security forces in restoring stability and fostering development. Zulum highlighted the crucial role of traditional leaders in stabilizing conflict-affected communities, emphasizing their pivotal role in facilitating communication between government bodies and residents, bolstering community resilience, and guiding returnees as they reintegrate into their ancestral homes.

During his visit, Zulum also paid a visit to the 68 Battalion Nigerian Army headquarters, commending the troops for their bravery and commitment to ensuring security in the region. He assured the military of the state government's unwavering support to enhance their operational effectiveness.
