Warrior Cats Game Based on Acclaimed Ya Series Finally Has a Release Date

Erin Hunter's Warrior Cats franchise has finally received an officially licensed video game, set to release on October 23, 2026 across all major platforms. Developer Adam Johnston of Bamtang Games shared insights into the team's creative process and the challenges of staying true to the lore of the four original clans in the Warrior Cats series.

The game, titled Clans of the Forest, is a turn-based role-playing adventure that aims to capture the strategic combat and character customization that fans have come to love in the books. Unlike traditional RPGs, combat in Clans of the Forest focuses on stealth, positioning, and teamwork, with players shifting between different combat stances to gain an advantage in battles against predators or rival patrols.

Players have the unique opportunity to create their own warrior cat, choosing from various customization options such as pelt patterns, eye colors, and even evolving appearances as their cat gains experience. While players can't play as established characters like Firestar, the freedom to design their own cat offers a deep sense of personal connection to the game world.

The decision to allow players to choose warrior roles, such as Medicine Cat, was made to honor the lore and provide a Hero's Journey for the player. Medicine Cats hold a special and spiritual role in the Clan hierarchy, focusing on healing and guidance rather than combat. By limiting the player's role to these established warrior positions, the game emphasizes the importance of leadership and strategic decision-making in the face of the prophecy.
