Tropical Storm Edouard expected to inundate parts of Texas and Louisiana

Tropical Storm Edouard is expected to make landfall in Texas and Louisiana on Tuesday afternoon, potentially bringing heavy rains and flooding to the region. The storm, which formed in the Gulf of Mexico, reached maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95km/h) as it approached the coast. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Edouard is projected to drop 3-7 inches (8-17cm) of rain, with some areas of southwestern Louisiana potentially seeing up to 12 inches (30cm) of precipitation.

The storm may cause flash flooding and river flooding, as warned by senior hurricane specialist Brad Reinhart. Despite the potential for severe weather, some local business owners remain cautious, like Mike Gilbert, who closed his surf shop in Texas due to concerns over the storm's impact on employee commutes. In contrast, others, such as RV park owner Connor Salvador in Cameron, Louisiana, remain generally unfazed by Edouard, as they are accustomed to similar storms passing through the area.

Meanwhile, other storms are brewing in the Pacific Ocean, with Hurricane Lowell expected to remain far from Hawaii for now but still capable of affecting surf and marine conditions. Tropical Storm Marie is also predicted to become a hurricane by Wednesday, capable of impacting parts of south-west Mexico and Baja California. Storm Karina, currently a category 4 hurricane, is expected to weaken but remains a threat as it moves away from any land.
