Tinubu’s vacation: Peter Obi questions President’s priorities

Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's vacation plans, questioning the priorities of the government amid ongoing insecurity and economic hardships. In a recent statement on social media, Obi criticized Tinubu's decision to embark on another three-week holiday in Europe, emphasizing that Nigerians continue to face difficulties.

The statement came amid reports of 600 Nigerians, primarily women, children, and the elderly, being abducted during Juma’at prayers in Niger State.

Obi highlighted that government expenditure on presidential trips and related travel costs between June 2023 and April 2026 reached approximately N37.64 billion. He further pointed out that Tinubu reportedly spent around 261 days outside Nigeria during the same period. Moreover, Obi alleged that only N36 million was allocated to the Federal Ministry of Health in 2025, despite a capital allocation of N218 billion. These figures, according to Obi, raise questions about the government's priorities.

The presidential candidate argued that leadership entails setting priorities, and the current administration should focus on addressing critical issues such as insecurity, healthcare, education, and the economic challenges faced by Nigerians. Obi urged the President to prioritize these matters over frequent overseas travel. He also advocated for greater promotion of domestic tourism in Nigeria, suggesting that the President could play a role in boosting tourism by visiting various parts of the country.

By fostering domestic tourism, Obi believes that more jobs could be created and businesses supported across sectors like hospitality, transportation, agriculture, entertainment, and more. "We deserve leadership that puts Nigeria first, leadership that cares and plans for a better Nigeria," Obi stated, expressing his commitment to this vision alongside his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
