Tinubu: We Must Translate Macroeconomic Stability Into Microeconomic Prosperity

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the need to transform macroeconomic stability into microeconomic prosperity during his administration's second phase of the Renewed Hope agenda. Speaking at the Asiwaju Scorecard Series/Asiwaju Policy Roundtable, Tinubu highlighted the country's recent improvements, such as a growing gross external reserve of $52.7 billion and increased non-oil revenue.

However, he stressed that macroeconomic stability is merely the foundation, and the ultimate goal is to achieve cheaper food, more jobs, affordable credit, reliable electricity, and greater purchasing power for Nigerians.

Tinubu outlined his administration's ambitious plans to achieve a $1 trillion economy, which he sees as a national mission. This goal requires investment in strategic infrastructure, including highways, railways, ports, energy systems, and digital connectivity. He proposed developing an integrated five-port maritime and logistics corridor connecting Lagos, Ondo, Ibom, Port Harcourt, and Calabar through modern rail and road networks, with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway as the principal coastal road spine.

Furthermore, Tinubu emphasized the importance of connecting the maritime gateways to the interior through rail and road networks. The Western Corridor would link Lagos, Abaji, Kaduna, and Kano, while the Eastern Corridor would connect Port Harcourt, Abaji, Kaduna, and Kano. These developments, he believes, will transform Nigeria into the maritime gateway and logistics hub of West and Central Africa, boosting trade, manufacturing, and distribution value chains.

To achieve this vision, Tinubu announced plans for industrial parks, export-processing zones, logistics parks, agro-processing clusters, and manufacturing centers along these corridors. These initiatives would create jobs, generate foreign exchange, and enhance Nigeria's position as a regional commercial hub.
