The skate doesn’t fall far from the tree

The story of Dana and Marrin McKee reveals the close bond between mother and daughter in the world of figure skating. Growing up in Morris, Dana spent her youth in the CanSkate program, learning the basics of skating. It wasn't until a new coach saw her potential that she continued to skate, eventually becoming a coach herself. As a mother, Dana always encouraged her daughter, Marrin, to give skating a chance, even if it meant starting at a young age.

From the moment Marrin was three months old, she was in the rink with her mom, growing up surrounded by the sport. While Marrin initially had mixed feelings about skating, winning her first competition at age seven sparked a newfound passion. Despite the challenges of balancing coaching, training, and school, Marrin has become a skilled coach in her own right, connecting with a diverse range of skaters.

Both mother and daughter share a deep love for the sport, supporting each other both on and off the ice, creating a tight-knit community of skaters.
