Texas, Pennsylvania lead states in CDL school shutdowns

Texas and Pennsylvania were the states with the highest number of brick-and-mortar commercial driver training schools affected by the Department of Transportation's crackdown, each with 13 schools targeted. California and Florida followed with 11 and 10 schools respectively, while Utah had 9 schools impacted. The Department of Transportation's (DOT) data analysis identified these schools as having a significant number of English-language proficiency violations, totaling 5,000 violations.

DOT Administrator Derek Barrs stated that every targeted school had trained at least 10 drivers who were later cited for these violations, collectively certifying more than 5,000 drivers. The DOT's state breakdown reveals that Texas, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, and Utah accounted for two-thirds of the physical-location schools identified, with these five states together responsible for 56 schools.
