Tenants mull over future plans after sudden news of Marina Square closure

Tenants at Marina Square are grappling with the prospect of relocating following the sudden news of the mall's closure. Jonathan Ye, an events manager at Lava Floor, expressed uncertainty about how much compensation the business would receive, as its lease remains valid beyond the scheduled closure date in March 2027. Ted Llaguno, showroom manager at Econflo Systems, echoed concerns about the high cost of relocating, having spent nearly a million dollars on renovations for their showroom at the mall.

Independent book-and-toy retailer The Toy Folks is in negotiations to secure a new space, citing challenging asking rents. At least two major tenants have already made plans to relocate, including architecture firm DP Architects moving to SingPost Centre and private educational institution PSB Academy relocating to Tai Seng. The Straits Times reports that all tenants were informed of the mall's impending closure on September 1, with JustCo moving its members to other locations in Singapore and Gain City working closely to understand the implications for their outlet.

Property developer Singapore Land Group stated they will work closely with tenants through the transition period. Shoppers, including office worker Jessica Lim, are also affected by the closure, with Lim expressing the need to find an alternative place to bring her young daughter on weekends.
