Spain sets new tourism record as foreign visitors spend €82 billion in first seven months of 2026

Spain has shattered tourism records, as 58.1 million international visitors arrived and spent over €82 billion during the first seven months of 2026, according to official figures. Visitor numbers surged 4.6% compared to the same period last year, while spending grew even faster at 7.8% to reach a record €82.05 billion. July alone saw a remarkable 11.5 million tourists, a 4.6% increase from the previous year, with spending climbing 10.9% to reach €18.22 billion.

Average spending per visitor reached €1,579, a 5.9% increase, while tourists spent €218 per person per day, 3.7% more than the prior year. The average stay remained at 7.2 days.

British tourists continued to dominate, accounting for 11.5 million visitors and 16.9% of all international tourism expenditure. They were also the biggest spenders, making up 16.9% of the total. German visitors increased their spending by 11.5% during July, and French tourists saw a 12.6% rise. Catalonia attracted the most visitors, with 11.94 million international tourists, a 2.9% increase from 2025.

The Balearic Islands followed with 9.16 million visitors, up 1.8%, while the Canary Islands welcomed 9.02 million, down 0.6%. Andalusia also saw strong growth, with arrivals increasing 8.2%.

Accommodation remained the largest expense for international visitors, accounting for 19.8% of all spending, with package holidays and international transport also significant contributors. Business travel, while smaller, grew at a much faster rate, with spending surging 37.7% to €782 million. The surge in revenues persists despite the strong visitor numbers, highlighting the robustness of Spain's tourism industry.
