South Korea’s Lee accepts resignation of policy adviser following cabinet reshuffle

South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung has accepted the resignation of his chief presidential policy adviser, Kim Yong-beom, following a cabinet reshuffle, according to the presidential Blue House. The move comes as President Lee's approval rating has dropped, with a recent poll showing it has fallen to 38.9%, marking its first dip into the 30% range since he assumed office in June last year.

Kim Yong-beom had been a key adviser to President Lee on economic policy, including matters related to housing and the stock market. His resignation was announced today, the same day that President Lee accepted it, as per a statement from the presidential office's spokesman.

The cabinet reshuffle was announced on Sunday, during which President Lee named six new ministers, including replacements for the economy and finance minister, the land minister, as well as new presidential aides. In late August, President Lee had also appointed a new trade minister.

The recent drop in President Lee's approval rating can be attributed to growing concerns over housing prices and rental costs, according to the Realmeter poll released on Monday.
