Software update for LPG agencies signals intent as e-KYC deadline extended to Sept 7

A software update for cooking gas agencies has signaled the oil marketing companies' (OMC) intent as the deadline for extending e-KYC authentication has been postponed to September 7 for LPG households. Telangana LPG Distributors Association president Jagan Mohan Reddy confirmed that the update would "indent non-eKYC stocks," indicating that oil marketing companies are preparing for any unforeseen situations.

The update is expected to benefit all three oil companies' distributorships. However, no specific pricing details have been provided by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas regarding refills for households that do not complete the e-KYC or Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. Despite urging domestic LPG consumers to complete the process to maintain domestic rates, the pricing of refills for non-authenticated users remains unclear.

The e-KYC deadline extension has been confirmed by a Chennai distributor, who stated that the process is ongoing, and consumers can still complete e-KYC even after the deadline. If a differential pricing is implemented, non-authenticated users will not be able to receive refills at domestic rates. Once authenticated, the supply will revert to the domestic rate.

As of now, 86% of the 1.26 crore domestic LPG users have completed the e-KYC, but many non-completers may have multiple connections, which is not permitted. Additionally, a distributor in Chennai mentioned that a provision to block customers has been enabled for distributors. This update, along with other measures, suggests the government's commitment to ensuring that domestic refills reach the intended users.
