Six injured, two dead in crash on Accra–Kumasi Highway

Two people have tragically lost their lives and six others suffered injuries in a devastating accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway near Dr. Marbel Junction. The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, involving a DAF truck, a VW Sprinter bus, and a tricycle.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station rushed to the scene and managed to extricate one individual who had been trapped under the DAF truck. This victim was promptly taken to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical care.

Initial investigations suggest that the DAF truck experienced a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and collide with the VW Sprinter bus. The impact then resulted in the VW Sprinter bus crashing into the parked tricycle. Sadly, the tricycle was left irreparably damaged, while the DAF truck and VW Sprinter bus sustained partial damage.

The GNFS has issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced and maintained, and to exercise caution while driving on the roads. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of neglecting vehicle upkeep.
