Russian skies not safe due to Ukraine drones - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a warning that Russian airspace is becoming increasingly unsafe due to the presence of Ukrainian drones. In his nightly address, Zelensky cautioned airlines, insurers, and everyone using Russia's key airports that they are operating in a hazardous environment. He emphasized that Ukraine does not intend to threaten civilian aviation, as no civilian aircraft have been targeted.

Instead, the sky over Russia is currently dominated by Ukrainian drones on a scale that must be considered.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted strongly to Zelensky's remarks, accusing him of "state terrorism." Putin insisted that Ukraine should not negotiate with terrorists and called for the resumption of negotiations. However, Putin also expressed his belief that Russian forces would ultimately triumph in Ukraine.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has persisted for over four years, with both sides intensifying their attacks. Recently, more than 12 people were killed in Kyiv and the surrounding region during fresh Russian strikes. Additionally, air traffic at Russian airports has been frequently disrupted by Ukrainian drones, whose numbers have grown in recent months.

Zelensky expressed concern for the safety of civilians, stating that innocent lives should not be lost. He warned his partners that the days of safe skies in Russia are over. Nevertheless, Ukraine is willing to cooperate with its partners to clear its drones from Russian skies under specific circumstances, such as diplomacy, negotiations, or temporary periods in designated locations.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts mediated by the United States to end the conflict, progress has been limited, particularly in light of the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
