Rigaku Launches CT Lab HR160 High-Resolution X-ray CT System

Rigaku Corporation has introduced the CT Lab HR160, a high-resolution X-ray computed tomography (CT) system tailored for battery, semiconductor devices, electronic components, and advanced materials analysis. This system was developed in collaboration with Excillum AB, a global leader in X-ray innovation based in Stockholm, Sweden.

The CT Lab HR160 merges Rigaku's expertise in X-ray CT imaging with Excillum's advanced NanoTube N3 X-ray source, which operates at up to 160 kV to support a broad spectrum of sample types. Achieving an industry-leading spatial resolution of 250 nm, the system enables detailed, non-destructive 3D imaging of intricate internal structures and defects that are challenging to observe with traditional laboratory CT systems.

The cone-beam geometry of the CT Lab HR160 allows users to modify the field of view and resolution without altering the X-ray source or detector, thereby simplifying operations across various samples and imaging requirements. Designed for applications including solid-state batteries, semiconductor devices, multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), and power electronics, this system addresses the growing need for analytical tools capable of revealing finer internal features with greater precision as electronic components and advanced materials become increasingly smaller, more complex, and higher-performing.

Kiyoshi Ogata, General Manager of Rigaku's Product Division, highlighted that the CT Lab HR160 offers customers a fresh solution to tackle the increasingly intricate analytical challenges associated with advanced materials and electronic devices. By delivering high-resolution CT capabilities within a laboratory setting, Rigaku aims to facilitate faster decision-making in research, development, quality evaluation, and failure analysis.
