Reading sign NI striker Jamie Reid from Stevenage

Stevenage-based Northern Ireland striker Jamie Reid has been signed by Reading on a two-year contract, with the fee's exact amount remaining undisclosed. Over the past five years, the 32-year-old has made 245 appearances for Broadhall Way, netting 69 goals in the process. Reid played a key role in Stevenage's promotion from League Two in the 2022-2023 season and was included in the League One Team of the Season for the 2023-2024 term.

His 14 goals last year contributed to Stevenage's fifth-place finish and entry into the League One play-offs. He has also scored two goals in 16 appearances for Northern Ireland. Reading manager Leam Richardson praised Reid, highlighting his consistent goal-scoring ability and work ethic. "Jamie is a proven goalscorer at this level and somebody who has consistently shown what he can bring to a team over a number of years.

He works incredibly hard, he's intelligent with his movement and he knows where the goal is. He can lead the line, play off other forwards and gives us another really good option at the top end of the pitch," said Richardson. BBC Radio Berkshire notes that fans have been seeking the acquisition of a dependable striker, given Jack Marriott's solid 17-goal performance last season, albeit marred by injury issues.

Reid's arrival will provide Richardson with a more reliable options for goal-scoring. Kelvin Ehibhatiohman, who had been assisting Marriott, has left during this transfer window. Richardson has made it clear that strengthening in central defense and attack is a priority. Reid joins Jacob Brown, who will also be contributing goals.

Josh Knight and Conor Masterson will bolster the defense. All four players joined Reading in the past week.
