PTI challenges govt claims about Imran’s incarceration

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has vehemently rejected the government's assertions regarding Imran Khan's imprisonment, describing them as "misleading, fabricated and incorrect". After an interview with Imran's sons aired during the Lord's Test, the Ministry of Information released a statement on social media and to foreign press.

This statement claimed Imran was not under executive detention, had been convicted based on multiple cases, and was entitled to pursue remedies under Pakistani law. They also stated Imran was subject to security arrangements appropriate for a high-profile prisoner and was permitted various amenities. However, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja rejected these claims at a press conference.

Raja pointed out that an Islamabad High Court judgment from March 2025 allows Imran and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to meet family members twice a week, but such meetings are not being held. He also mentioned that meetings with lawyers have been denied, and those allowed were not acting as Imran's lawyers. Furthermore, Imran's order to be transferred to Shifa International Hospital was not implemented, and meetings with his sisters were either severely restricted or stopped after October 2025.

Raja also highlighted that nearly 300 cases have been filed against Imran, yet he has been allowed only one lawyer to meet him, who was actually a court-appointed amicus. Additionally, contempt petitions have been filed against Adiala jail administration for not permitting such meetings. Raja claimed Imran has been in solitary confinement since October 2025 and can neither communicate with his lawyers nor advise them during trials.

He also stated that Imran is separated from other co-accused and his trial is being conducted via video call through a mobile phone. Raja emphasized that Imran Khan, one of Pakistan's greatest cricketers, is suffering in prison and called for the Supreme Court to take notice of the disregard of its orders.
