The police request any witnesses with information related to the incident to assist with the investigation. The first boat, Sea Queen, carrying six individuals aged between 13 and 38 years old, was believed to be on its way from Pulau Besar to Jeti Mersing. Two deceased victims were the boat captain, aged 38, and a male passenger, aged 32.
Meanwhile, a second boat, Rawa Birds, was operated by three people, including a captain, an assistant, and a passenger aged between 28 and 35 years old, which was en route from Jeti Mersing to Pulau Rawa. Seven other passengers sustained injuries, with some in critical condition, receiving treatment at Mersing and Sultan Ismail hospitals, as well as one at Pasir Gudang Hospital.
The police are still investigating whether the two boats had the necessary permits or licenses to carry passengers. The police will also examine the movement schedule of the boats to determine if they followed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations.
