Police arrest two suspects in connection with murder of Yidani chief and son

The Northern Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murder of Yidani Chief Naa Ntimla Nwenisim and his son, Ntimla Bilaga, in the Gushegu Municipality of the Northern Region. On August 14, 2026, around 0300 hours, police received information about three unidentified armed men attacking the chief's residence and shooting him and his son.

Upon reaching the scene, police secured the area and began their investigation. Preliminary findings indicated that the assailants entered the compound, demanded to be directed to the chief's room, and, when refused, fired a shot into a nearby room before proceeding to the chief's room where they forcibly entered and shot both victims.

Five empty BB cartridges were recovered from the scene as evidence. A post-mortem examination conducted on August 17, 2026, revealed that both victims sustained multiple injuries consistent with a shotgun assault, leading to their deaths from severe injuries and hemorrhagic shock. Following the incident, a special operations team from the National Police Headquarters and support from other security agencies intensified patrols and security operations in the area.

On August 26, 2026, credible intelligence was received that two suspects were traveling from Dombine in the Gushegu Municipality towards Chereponi. Acting on this information, the Gushegu police promptly alerted the Chereponi District Police Command, leading to the arrest of the two suspects, Majejiba Magne, aged 25, and Haruna Nlegle, aged 34, on August 27, 2026.

Police stated that investigations into the murders were ongoing and appealed for the public's assistance, emphasizing that any information provided would be kept confidential. The Regional Police Command assured the public of their commitment to bringing all responsible persons to justice and protecting lives and property.
