Police arrest six in Osun for vandalising, stealing power cables

Six individuals have been apprehended by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly vandalizing and stealing a high-tension powerline pole at Eko-Ende Junction, Ikirun, Osun State. The Command revealed the arrests in a press release, stating that the town has been plagued by frequent cable and electrical asset thefts in recent months, leading to widespread darkness.

Acting on intelligence, police officers swiftly raided the scene and apprehended the suspects, who were found cutting the pole with a cutting machine powered by a generator. The suspects, all employees of Ikirun-based IBEDC, include Onabamiji Emmanuel aged 55, Bolaji Odusanya aged 51, Alimi Akeem aged 36, Balogun Kehinde aged 52, Oyewo Hammed aged 31, and Oladosu Hammed aged 22.

Law enforcement found a cutting machine, a generator, and a welding machine during the search. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, with suspects facing court upon conclusion of the probe. The Osun State Police Command urges citizens to report any suspicious activities, pledging to protect public infrastructure and apprehend offenders.
