PM Wong to visit Bangkok for Singapore-Thailand leaders’ retreat

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is set to travel to Bangkok on September 2nd to participate in his inaugural Singapore-Thailand leaders' retreat. During the summit, Wong and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will assess the progress of existing defense and economic ties between the nations, while also exploring new avenues for collaboration in green and digital sectors, energy resilience, food security, and combating transnational crime.

They are also anticipated to sign an agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in social sector development. Wong will be given a private lunch by Anutin during the retreat, after which a joint press conference is expected. This will be the first such retreat between the two leaders since 2015. The visit coincides with Anutin's recent trip to Singapore in November, shortly after he assumed office as Thailand's prime minister.

Economic ties between Singapore and Thailand have been robust, with bilateral trade valued at S$52.4 billion (US$41.1 billion) in 2025, marking a 17.8% increase from the previous year. Thailand ranks as Singapore's ninth-largest trading partner and its third-largest within ASEAN, while Singapore remains Thailand's largest source of foreign direct investment.
