Philadelphia Eagles Sign Ex-Cowboys RB With ‘Maturity Issues’

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, joining their practice squad. Blue was released by the Cowboys on Sunday as part of the 53-man roster cutdown following the 2025 draft pick. Despite his 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, Blue's value to the Cowboys diminished after he played in just 5 games in his rookie season, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown.

ESPN's Todd Archer noted that Blue's rookie season was a wash due to his inactivity for 12 games and questions surrounding his maturity and trustworthiness. As a result, Malik Davis became the primary backup to Javonte Williams, with Blue, Davis, and Phil Mafah competing for the second running back role. ESPN's Kristopher Knox stated that Blue is considered the NFL's best "bargain" free agent running back, highlighting his potential and 1,098 scrimmage yards and 14 touchdowns during his college career at Texas.
