Packers express hope Josh Jacobs, who faces legal issues, can play sometime this season

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs, who is currently facing legal issues, is still receiving support from his coach and general manager, who are optimistic about his potential return to the team this season. Coach Matt LaFleur expressed his trust in Jacobs, stating that he believes the running back when he says he will return.

General manager Brian Gutekunst also expressed his hope that Jacobs would play before the end of the season, but emphasized that they would wait until the process is complete before making any decisions.

Jacobs, who was arrested on May 26, faces misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property in an incident that occurred on May 23. The Brown County (Wisconsin) District Attorney's office has filed charges against Jacobs, with the NFL subsequently placing him on the commissioner's exempt list, which prevents him from playing or practicing while allowing him to keep receiving a salary.

Jacobs may be permitted to be at the club's facility for meetings, individual workouts, therapy and rehabilitation, and other non-football activities, but any games missed while on the exempt list would count towards his potential suspension from the league.

The Packers' coaching and management team have been prepared for the possibility of Jacobs being placed on the list, with coach LaFleur expressing his love, care, and respect for Jacobs as a person and teammate. Jacobs' lawyers have noted that the placement on the commissioner's list is an administrative decision made while a matter is under review and not a final determination.

They added that Jacobs "looks forward to his return to the team and the NFL." Police reports indicate that Jacobs' girlfriend sustained a head injury during an altercation with him, and surveillance footage from the garage corroborates her statement.
