P-plater pleads over crash killing woman, unborn child

A 19-year-old P-plater, Aaron Papazoglu, has admitted to driving dangerously in a fatal crash that claimed the life of a pregnant woman and her unborn child in northern Sydney. Samanvidha Dhareshwar, 33, was struck by Papazoglu's sedan after being hit by a station wagon. Dhareshwar, who was walking with her husband and child, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

The crash occurred in November when Papazoglu allegedly accelerated through an intersection when the light turned yellow. His lawyer argued that the station wagon had stopped for pedestrians to cross, and Papazoglu would have expected the car to complete its turn before hitting it. No drugs or alcohol were involved, and he was not accused of street racing or running a red light.

The maximum combined sentence for the charges he pleaded guilty to is 13 years in prison. Three other charges, including an aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death charge, were dismissed. Papazoglu remains on bail and will face sentencing at the District Court on September 18.
