Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, the General Secretary of the National People's Power (NPP), maintains that despite the dissenting stance of Executive member Lal Wijenayake on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, the party anticipates Wijenayake's continued association with the NPP. This senior lawyer is among nearly 65 petitioners challenging the contentious constitutional amendment.
Abeysinghe, who is not planning to criticize Wijenayake's decision, acknowledges his democratic right to hold a personal opinion on the matter.
