MP High Court Allows Ratlam Medical Students To Take Main University Exam In Hostel Clash Case

Indore's Madhya Pradesh High Court bench has granted permission to two medical students to sit for the Main University Examination following a dispute that originated from a hostel altercation in Ratlam. The decision was rendered on Tuesday by a division bench consisting of Justices Subodh Abhyankar and Alok Awasthi in response to petitions from Drs Pankaj Chouhan and Sardar Goutham Singh.

The students contested an August 10 ruling that barred them from participating in the Main University Examination, despite having been allowed to take the supplementary exam. This action followed their alleged participation in a dispute that arose during Holi celebrations on March 4, 2026, at the Dr Laxminarayan Pandey Medical College in Ratlam.

The incident involved a car, purportedly driven recklessly by Rajat Ali, colliding with other students, leading to a subsequent group confrontation. The High Court acknowledged the gravity of the situation and stipulated that the appellants be allowed to proceed with the Main University Examination and fulfill the requisite formalities.

A video clip of the incident was also presented to the court during the proceedings. The court issued a temporary injunction to uphold the August 10 order until the subsequent hearing date, though it emphasized that the final examination results would be contingent upon the ultimate resolution of the appeal. The case will be revisited in four weeks, with the court noting that it does not conclusively resolve the core allegations or the students' appeal; it simply extends interim relief enabling them to take the Main University Examination pending further deliberation.
