Ministry of Water announces 12-month paid internships for young graduates

The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation in Kenya has launched a 12-month paid internship program aimed at recent graduates eager to gain hands-on experience and boost their employment prospects. This initiative is part of the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP), which is funded by the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA).

The Ministry announced through My Gov newspaper on September 1, 2026, that the second cohort of the program will consist of 65 interns who will commence their placement in January 2027.

The internship, coordinated by the Ministry and managed by the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources (RCGW), is designed to enhance access to groundwater management and promote its sustainable use in the Horn of Africa region. Eligible applicants must be young graduates aged between 25 and 35, holding a Bachelor’s degree within the last two years of the advertisement.

The program welcomes graduates from various fields, excluding those who have previously received government-funded internships or held formal employment in their area of specialization after graduation.

Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend as per government guidelines and will be required to work at relevant offices or workstations within the institutions involved in the HoAGW4RP. Their duties will encompass tasks assigned by supervisors, participation in mentorship activities, documenting acquired skills, and adhering to monitoring and evaluation requirements. The internship period is non-renewable, and interns must be prepared to comply with all rules and regulations of the posting institutions.

Applicants must submit the official application form, along with a cover letter, identification, CV, academic certificates, and other supporting documents via email to [email protected] before the deadline of September 18, 2026. The selection process will be based on merit, and candidates must pass an interview. Upon successful completion, interns will receive a certificate, and termination of placement may occur due to misconduct, poor performance, or criminal offenses.
