Matthew Perry Docuseries Set at Netflix

Matthew Perry, the beloved star of the hit TV show Friends, passed away in 2023 at the age of 54. His life and career have been the subject of much discussion following his death. A new three-part Netflix docuseries, The One About Matthew Perry, aims to offer a more comprehensive look at the actor, beyond his on-screen persona and struggles with addiction.

Perry's sister, Mia Perry Bowick, who is featured in the documentary, hopes the series will provide a more complete portrait of her brother, highlighting his "beautiful heart and generous spirit," even in his darkest times. Bowick noted that Perry, despite his addiction challenges, could still bring joy and love to those around him.

The three-part documentary is directed by Mary Robertson, known for her work on Investigation Discovery's Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. Perry began his acting career as a child, and admitted that he had been struggling with alcoholism since he was 14. The docuseries plans to include interviews with Perry's lifelong best friends, though no specific cast members from Friends have been confirmed.

While Perry is most widely recognized for his role in Friends, he had a diverse career in film and television, with notable roles in The West Wing and Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, particularly showcasing his more serious acting abilities. Perry's 2022 autobiography, Friends, Lovers, And The Big, Terrible Thing: A Memoir, details his lifelong battle with addiction, which led to production delays and cost him an estimated $9 million in recovery efforts.

Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, after an accidental drowning incident involving ketamine use. The One About Matthew Perry is set to premiere on Netflix on October 27.
