Man to be charged with driving under influence of etomidate and dangerous driving causing death

A 41-year-old man will be charged on September 2 for driving under the influence of etomidate and causing dangerous driving resulting in death, according to the police statement on September 1. The incident occurred on July 11 around 11:45 PM at Pipit Road near Block 52A Circuit Road. Investigations revealed that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to surge forward and crash through a carpark barrier.

The car then crossed the two-lane Pipit Road, mounted the kerb, and collided with a temporary night market stall along the roadside. A 66-year-old female stall attendant was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver did not provide assistance to the victim and abandoned the vehicle before fleeing the scene with another male passenger.

Police investigations identified the driver and arrested him on July 12. The man was found not to have a valid driving license and had used a vaporiser containing etomidate before driving. The vehicle was rented under the passenger's valid driving license. The male passenger, who also died in an unrelated road traffic accident, will not face further action.
