Man sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling two-year-old child in Yatta

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a two-year-old child in Yatta, Kenya. The conviction came after prosecutors presented evidence linking the accused to the sexual assault committed on January 6, 2026. The court, presided over by Hon. Githaiga of the Kithimani Magistrate’s Court, found the crime to be grave and aggravated, given the sexual nature of the offence against a minor.

While the accused was a first-time offender, the court deemed the severity of the crime to warrant a custodial sentence. The prosecution argued that the evidence was sufficient to prove the charge beyond reasonable doubt, citing the child's injuries, medical documentation, and the child's identification of the accused. The court sentenced the man to life imprisonment, effective from January 12, 2026, when he was first arraigned.
