Lionel Richie hospitalised after St Louis concert

American singer Lionel Richie was hospitalized in St Louis after his performance at The Muny on Saturday, August 29. Doctors were conducting tests to determine if his condition was due to dehydration. The 77-year-old musician checked himself into a local hospital after completing the concert, as per multiple reports. A source close to Richie's tour said the decision was precautionary.

Richie was reportedly admitted to an intensive care unit for medical tests. While TMZ, citing insiders, mentioned possible dehydration as the cause, there has been no official confirmation from Richie or his representatives. During the show, Richie struggled towards the end, so he asked his team to bring a chair onto the stage and performed while seated.

Video footage from the concert shows him continuing with the performance. This hospitalization marks Richie's second health scare this summer; on June 24, during a performance in St Paul, Minnesota, he stopped the show because he felt dizzy and unwell. His earlier symptoms were attributed to dehydration by doctors. Richie has had a long and successful career spanning over five decades, selling over 125 million albums and winning four Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe.

His next scheduled performance is set for September 26 at San Francisco's Chase Center, where he will perform with Earth, Wind & Fire.
